MARTIN SCHICK

Born in Fribourg, Switzerland 1978, lives in Berlin. Studied theatre at the University of Arts in Berne, where he graduated 2005 (with distinction!). Worked several years as an actor for television and cinema (“Nordwand”, “Tandoori Love”) and for independent theatre- and dance-projects. Passionally associated with dance since childhood, influenced by working with David Zambrano, Minako Seki, Elias Cohen (amongst others). For 2 years has intensely collaborated with Laura Kalauz, and is the winner of the ZKB patronage prize at Theaterspektakel Zürich. Since then he is mainly working as a choreographer/director: 2009 at Deutsches Theater Göttigen, 2010 at Staatstheater Saarbrücken (Germany), 2011 for the sight-specific project REMOTE CITIZEN. 2011 at the Festival Belluard/Bollwerk International with his project “Omomoto” in collaboration with the artist Vreni Spieser. 2012 he presents a collaborative work about social dance “200mm” at Tuchlaube Aarau, he works for WINTERAKADEMIE at Gessnerallee Zürich, participates the group exhibition at Museumsnacht Bern and he is teaching at the Hochschule der Künste Zürich. Meanwhile he is investigating bodyweather-training-technique, Tango and that what moves people.

In July 2012 he will premiere a solo-work at the Festival Belluard/ Bollwerk International in Fribourg (CH), a production supported by Far° Festival Nyon, Gessnerallee Zürich, Kaserne Basel, Biennale Bern, Festival Performa Losone, Arsenic Lausanne and Beursschouwburg in Brussels.. www.martinschick.wordpress.com
